#29, Dec. 18. 2013

So CIM is only half the route to AR which leads to hedge fund.
I also need 4 years of relevant work experience. The best way to get this experience is to work directly under an AR, such as research for AR. Trading doesn't count towards AR work experience.
So..
1) finish CIM
2) get a research job ***with*** AR
3) swing trade for some income

Hello my journal,

For this entry I will practice my writing skills to better my professionalism in everything that I do. I realize that there are so many aspects of my life I need to work on, and one of the key facets is building a professional attitude.
Why do I need to build a professional attitude you may ask yourself. The answer is simple, I will need it to succeed in the financial industry. I am already 21 years old and as such I must hold myself to a more mature standard. This professional attitude I must work on developing will influence all areas of my life, from how I speak and write to the manners I will try my best to exhibit while I eat.
A more professional attitude will prepare me for future opportunities in such a way that employers and partners will trust me.

On a side note, here are some skills I'd also like to develop. I'd like to be able to consistently beat the S&P 500's annual performance by at least 15%. I'd also like to be able to speak, influence, entertain, and motivate large audiences to my favor. If I can reach the first skill level, then all I would need to do is fulfill the legal requirements for a fund and find a means of acquiring large amounts of capital.

Now on my path to achieving that skill level, I'll need to survive so I must get a job in the financial industry that can bring me to a higher level. So far, one job I am looking at is the title of Junior Financial Analyst- where one does research and prepares models for dozens of companies to help senior analysts and portfolio managers make decisions.

I still haven't fully jumped in to the financial industry yet, I will research some more tomorrow for the best path I should take.
So that is all for now, good night.

Hey!
Long time no write.
So first week of work ended on Friday. It was a pretty good week, I learned most of the product that I was going to sell and I made a few new friends. I also passed and got my drivers licence so I have been driving the past few days in my mom's car. I've still been consistently working out 2-3 times a week.
Yesterday I got a lot of stuff done. I post ads on craigslist and Kijiji for networking purposes and today I learned the route to drive to work. Today I also cleaned my room and researched a bit about stocks and how I can get started investing.
Tomorrow I need to work on my call-list for work and I have toast masters in the evening which should be good. I need to network like crazy at toastmasters :D

Aittt that is all

Hey!
I haven't posted in a while.
Okay so here are some updated.
Had my birthday a few days ago, spent it with the fam and went out to eat and it was great.
I got hired for a full time job at Biosense doing sales so I will be going to work tomorrow. It pays base salary+ comision so it seems like a decent job so far. After 3 months of probation my base salary more than doubles.
I spent the weekend memorizing the products and its pretty cool, they focus on health products so that's awesome. I get to do sales + learn a bit about the health industry + help people lose weight (kinda like a fitness trainer/coach except I'll be motivating them to use the products).

I also started thinking about my future some more, and I'm more inclined towards business/finance/stocks right now. So I will explore that as well.

So yeahh tomorrow..
1) work
2) toastmasters
gotta get up at 7am so PCE

Awesome!
Actually no... not really. Today was very unproductive. The past 2 days have been pretty unproductive and I  have been in a slump. I failed an interview within 5 minutes, went to another interview that turned out to be an MLM business opportunity with a start up cost of $500. The company's name I'll exclude because I don't want to trash any companies but they basically posted an ad on craigslist for people who wanted a leadership position in a company that sells telecommunications. Turns out you are buying their business model for a fee and you make money by selling their products to your friends and family. You can also recruit people to work for you and get money from their sales (think multi level marketing). I was very attracted to this business at one point when they mentioned residual income, since they sell home services like phone and TV, and you get 1-10% of a customer's monthly bill as residual income. So hypothetically in the long run you can make a killing if you had a lot of customers because you would only need to sell them once and get residual income forever.
Truth is... I figured it doesn't quite work that way. I used to sell Telus products so I know how competitive the home services industry is... big companies like Telus and Shaw can offer services for much cheaper prices. I looked at the MLM products and they are all more expensive than Telus and Shaw, plus the residual won't actually be forever because a lot of families switch services every few years to take advantage of new bonuses. Also their "expected earnings" is unrealistic- they give you huge numbers that you could potentially earn, but the truth is most people earn much much less.
Basically, still jobless!

My focus right now is to get a job that can pay me stable income, while I look for what I really want to do. Also I will focus on building better habits so I don't do unproductive things like today- where I played online games and watched youtube videos all day.............. haha

anyway

Hey!
Today was pretty good.
I.........
1) created an investment account with Raymond James ltd
2) drove my mom to her meditation place
3) wrote and sent a cover letter+resume for a vitamin consultant position
4) phoned a career counselor and asked a bunch of questions- apparently I hate innate personality characteristics and learned skils that will help me in certain careers and that can narrow down my careers a lot more

I have an interview tomorrow morning, so I gotta get some sleep now. I'll just keep sending resumes and I'll find my career/passion as I search for a job and see how it goes.....

#9 (June 3, 2013)

Today was great, I actually got some shit done.
I....
1) sent the mail to the debt collector
2) sent in resumes for jobs
3) joined toastmasters for public speaking
4) chatted up a korean chick on the way home and got her #
5) phoned Maria and asked for info about her idea

Toastmasters is a pretty cool speaking club, they have a lot of great speakers and I can look into motivational speaking and see what they actually do. It was cool listening to them speak today, they rarely used words like "ummm, like, etc" and spoke very coherently.

OH YEAH, and my mom got a cat that is staying at our place for 2 days....

Anyway
Tomorrow I need to get up earlier, and get my sleeping schedule back on track.... get a job... keep asking questions about careers.... yeah, just keep moving forward

My bad for not posting yesterday
Its been good today and yesterday. I finished the letter from my pro bono lawyer and sent it to the debt collector. I need to send a hard copy too, so I need to buy stamps tomorrow.
Today I drove my mom to her meditation place. I researched phone numbers I can call to interview about certain career options. I also started a financial summary of the first 5 years in each career, so far only finished half of one career.
I've also been talking about careers to pretty much every I've met, so its opened my mind a bit.
Tomorrow morning I'm learning the North Vancouver driving area so I can get my licence at the ICBC here.

2) send rebuttal
3) narrow careers down

#6 (May 28, 2013)

Sleeping before 2am for once, yeaaa
Today was pretty good.
Finished researching my entire list of careers (12 total) so that's pretty awesome. I found a drop-in service for free career counseling so that'll help. I'm seeing a psychiatrist with my mom on Thursday so that'll be interesting too... I talked to my mom about how pissed I was because of how my parents abused me when I was a kid, so a psychiatrist might help me understand shit a bit better. I'm still trying to erase 17 years of fucked up programming my parents put into my head- due to ignorant Asian parenting.
That's the thing with my asian parents- they're ignorant, arrogant, controlling, "were" physically and emotionally abusive, and a whole bunch of other shit. In fact, I could literally write a novel on how badly my parents fucked me up. That's why I grew up with video game addiction, tried to suicide a couple of times, manic depression, gambling addiction, sex addiction, never kept healthy relationships, and the list goes on. But its cool, I move past that. Everyone goes through shit in their life, I got the suffering over with when I was a kid, so now I just look forward and move forward and stay positive.
So yea soon I'll have my career picked out and I can start working towards something, then I can start rebuilding my life which will be awesome.
Its like with a career picked out, I'll finally have some direction, instead of walking around searching for what to do.
Anyway, tomorrow I need to...
1) phone south western
2) get up before 11am
3) meet with pro bono lawyer, prepare a bit
4) Make a mindmap of what my future is gonna be like, and narrow down my careers based on it
5) work out
6) phone maria
7) sleep earlier than tonight.

It's gonna be an awesome day tomorrow. PCE

Apparently.. from now until I'm 40 years old, I only have 7305 days or 175320 hours or 1043 weeks!

That;s pretty crazy if you think about it.... days are ticking by!

Alright cool
Today I researched 2 more careers, only last 2 to go (lawyer and investor). I found a free career counseling service in downtown I'll check out this week. I worked out. I'm slowly doing more each day and staying focused and trying not to waste too much time.
I phoned South Western but the guy didn't pick up again. I'll try calling earlier tomorrow.

So tomorrow:
1) get up at 11am
2) phone south western
3) get a career counselor and do a drop in
4) research the last 2 careers, compile all the careers in a list and start narrowing them down
5) sleep earlier

Okay coool
Met up with Maria today.. she was informative about some things and yeah I'm just gonna find another career counselor tomorrow and try to get more feedback.
I gotta sleep right after this post- I'm sleeping late again so I have to work on that.
I got up earlier today, got up at 12 noon for once, so that was pretty cool.

Tomorrow I have to...
1) phone South Western, solve the debt
2) phone Maria, get some more info
3) phone another career counselor, book a consultation
4) work out
5) research the rest of my careers (4 more)
6) sleep earlier!!

Big day tomorrow, so yeaa pce!

#3 (May 25, 2013)

COOL
I'm gonna sleep right after post so I slept an hour earlier than I did yesterday (improvement :D )
I only researched one career today (psychology) unfortunately.
I worked out.
And I messaged a buddy about South Western documents and I searched around my mom's apartment and found something so that's kind of taken care of.

Today wasn't too productive. Got up at 1pm, ate, searched for documents, texted my roommate from the summer, worked out, ate some more. Was going to head to the observatory today (apparently there are tours by donations on Saturday evenings) but something happened to the bus I was supposed to take and it didn't come for a long time so I just called it quits. I'll check it out next saturday.
Spent some time with my mom.
Watched some Chris Rock stand up on youtube, damn hes funny as hell haha.

Will be meeting Maria tomorrow so hopefully I get closer to my desired Career choice and gain some insight.

Tomorrow:
1) Meet Maria, get some help about career decisions
2) get up earlier, at like 11am
3) sleep earlier (1am)
4) research some more about careers, finish off my list (4 more to go)

#2 (May 24, 2013)

Hey
cool
so I did most of what I was supposed to do today, except phone South Western (I got up at 2pm and their office was already closed). Tomorrow is Saturday (today I should say) so its probably going to be closed again, which sucks. Thats what I get for not waking up on time, so I'll have to get them on Monday.

I have a meeting with a pro-bono lawyer on the 29th to check if I can relinquish the debt since South Western falsely advertised me into a job... I'll need to prepare for that this weekend.

Soooo
Today was good, got up at 2pm, ate, phoned Jim Harris (motivational speaker and writer) and asked him a few interview questions and it was pretty cool hearing him talk about getting started in his profession. Took some notes on that.
Went to the library at about 5:20pm, stopped by the dollar store first and picked up a towel to wash my face with. Researched intently for 3 hours at the library. Today the careers I got into was fitness trainer and futurist. Fitness trainers don't earn as much as I thought they would, and apparently a lot of the job has to do with sales since you need to build a customer base to get business. Futurist was a really cool career too, its a fairly new career and not many futurists currently exist. Their salary is a bit sketch, couldn't find a reliable source about how much they earn but all in all its a cool career fitting my creative imagination.
I was supposed to sleep earlier tonight, that didn't go according to plan... gotta discipline my self better haha.

To do tomorrow:
1) Message people who worked with me in south western and try to get some documents
2) research the rest of my list of careers
3) workout
4) sleep earlier

#1 (May 23, 2013): Building my foundation

Whats up!
Alright, today I decided to start writing a blog. Hopefully this blog will keep me focused on my goals and get me to keep improving each day.
Today was pretty good. I woke up kind of late (1pm) so I couldn't call South Western to discuss my debt (they want me to pay them $1400)- long story. I didn't call Jim Harris either (research for motivational speaking career) so I have to do that tomorrow.
I got up, watched stuff on youtube, wasted a lot of time, ate breakfast, did a short workout, showered, ate some dumplings, (wasted a lot of time in-between all this by listening to music and watching youtube), and headed out to the library at 6pm.
I did some career research at the library for 3 hours, researched career as a poker player, and also researched the Health and fitness industry. So far health and fitness seems like a pretty cool field to get into, so I'll do some more research before I go to sleep tonight.
I've spent the past few weeks checking out career paths, and I'm going to keep learning about it. I'm meeting with this chick Maria this Sunday (she's got her own business and is apparently successful, I met her playing poker) and she's gonna help me with my careers. She's pretty cool, really nice and helpful :)

So yeaaa.. my long-term plan is simple
1) explore and research a bunch of career options
2) narrow my options down
3) extensively research my narrowed down options (hopefully down to 1-3 careers)
4) pick a career that most suits me (pays well, something I'm interested in, has growth in the future, etc)
5) dive into that career and start from the bottom, and commit to that career as it will be pretty much my life's work
6) get a job in that career, pursue education if required
7) start working, keep learning and try to move up
8) save money... spend very little, live a minimalist lifestyle and eventually I'll have a lot of money in a few years :D

So yeaaa.. thats the gist of my not-so-secret plan to riches! haha

Oh yea, and apparently I need to solidify my foundation, like as a human being- who I am, what my beliefs are, and my values, etc. I also need to start building a structured schedule so that I stop wasting time.

Alright.. so tomorrow I need to.....
1) phone south western and try to relinquish my debt
2) phone Jim Harris and ask him my interview questions
3) buy a towel to wash my face with...
4) research as much as I can about a few more careers I have listed

Aittt thats it for now, PCE
